There, she found life-changing treatment, and now Alexa and her family are winning the fight against myasthenia gravis.

Amila, a busy third grader who loves singing, dancing, and sports, struggled with asthma, ear infections, and sensory sensitivities. After her parents brought her to Connecticut Children’s, they discovered she had a laryngeal cleft, which was surgically treated, and she was diagnosed with autism.

After chemotherapy, surgery, and knee reconstruction, Ana is back in school, creating beautiful art—one of which was auctioned at the 2024 Connecticut Children’s Golden Ticket Gala to support the hospital’s Greatest Need Children’s Fund.

Meet Carter, an energetic kindergartner who loves cars and playing with his twin brother, Calvin. After being diagnosed with LAMA2-related muscular dystrophy, which causes muscle weakness and atrophy, Carter now uses a power chair to navigate. Despite the challenges, he and his family continue to face this rare disease with strength and determination.

Meet Chloe, a busy sixteen-year-old with Gitelman syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects her kidneys' ability to retain potassium and electrolytes. Despite requiring lifelong treatment and monitoring, Chloe continues to dance six days a week, mentor younger ballerinas, and stay active in school and church.

Despite having neurofibromatosis type 1 and an optic pathway glioma, a brain tumor that can't be removed, Emma stays active and enjoys sports with friends. Medication is shrinking her tumor, and her spirit remains unshaken.

Meet Jack, a high school soccer player with dreams of becoming a doctor and medical researcher. At 14, he was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood cancer, and needed a bone marrow transplant. Now in remission, Jack is back on the soccer field, inspired by his journey and the lifesaving care he received.

Nate

Nate, 13, was adopted by teachers Jenna and Tim after overcoming sickle cell disease, which led to amputations in his early years. He now manages his condition with expert care from Connecticut Children’s and is an A student, actor, and big brother. Nate’s advice: “Keep persevering, have hope, and never give up.”

Meet Spencer, a six-year-old with a love for animals and the outdoors. Diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth, he spent 46 days in the NICU but grew into a healthy toddler. Three years ago, Spencer was diagnosed with leukemia. Despite intense chemotherapy that left him unable to walk, talk, or feed himself, his spirit remained unbroken.
