The charming New England town of Lisbon is ready for the pounding of hundreds of runners' feet who are joining Team Joe Kelly for an inspirational 5K road race providing financial and emotional support for children and families fighting pediatric cancer at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
Team Joe Kelly was created to honor the memory of Joe Kelly, who courageously battled brain cancer for two years. While Joe was only 14 when he passed away, his goodness and positive attitude for life impacted all of those who knew him. He was thoughtful, kind, generous and truly cared for others. Joe was also passionate about sports. Whether he was playing football, baseball or basketball, he was competitive, but mainly loved being part of a team. After brain cancer treatment, Joe wanted to play football again. Physical therapists worked with him to develop his balance so he could do the kickoff one final time - and he did. Joe’s memory continues to inspire others to train on and Train for Life!
Team Joe Kelly welcomes runners and walkers at any level, from the recreational hiker to the experienced road runner. Leashed pets and jogging strollers welcome. Kids can enjoy a 1-mile loop through the Meadows in Katie Kelly’s Fun Run!
